The building, evidenced for the first time in 1187, seems to have been built on the ruins of an older medieval structure with a function of a fortification. The building presents features of the Gothic style and is characterized by yellowish shades, typical for the soft stone of Nanto. Throughout its long history the structure has undergone several changes and the Renaissance and Baroque touches are clearly visible.
